Things to Consider When Booking Family Portraits
Attire
Personal attire is not something the camera can change. While the photographer will point out more subtle changes needed like hair, sunglasses, hands in pockets, etc. it would be beneficial to make sure all clothing and accessories match with those around you.
Ideal Environment
Family portraits should emphasize and reinforce your family culture. It wouldn’t make sense to plant city folk in the middle of a cornfield in the middle of Piffard. Have a desired look for your background and context. That can anything from a studio to the National Warplane Museum.
Timing
Booking anything with your family can be a challenge. Most photographers are booked out for months at a time. Have a timeline on when the photoshoot can happen as well as when you need the images delivered by. This will help dial in on the best photographer for your shoot.
Have a Lead Person
Not all photographers are paid enough to manage other peoples families. If you have a family that mimics one found in a National Lampoons movie, it would be beneficial to have someone “in-house” doing the ordering around. It is better for everyone involved.
Physical Limitations
Family photoshoots should be comfortable for everyone involved. If you are including those with disabilities or parents that are a bit past their prime, it is helpful to plan around their constraints. We won’t be hiking any Adirondack high peaks with someone in a wheelchair, though the view would be nice.
